Sightsavers to host ‘Build a tippy tap’ challenge at the Science Museum

Sightsavers has organised a free, interactive event at the Science Museum on Wednesday 29 May that invites people to build a tippy tap, a home-made device that enables people to wash their hands when there’s no running water.

Attendees at the ‘The Measure of All Things’ Lates event will be given an empty milk carton, four wooden poles, some rope and Ikea-style instructions. They can race against their friends and find out how straightforward it is to assemble the simple tool, which is vital to combat the spread of infectious diseases such as blinding trachoma. These diseases are spread more easily when there is a lack of clean water and basic sanitation.

The theme of this month’s Late is ‘The Measure of All Things’, a celebration of the digitisation of the kilogram and an exploration of  measurement and control. Sightsavers’ event will showcase some of our trachoma treatment programmes funded by UK aid and the Queen Elizabeth Diamond Jubilee Trust.

The event is for over 18s only and will take place at the Science Museum on Exhibition Road in South Kensington, London. Doors open at 6.45pm and close at 10pm. Admission is free, but a ticket is needed.
