Sightsavers’ work to fight disease features in new video

September 2019

Sightsavers’ work to control and eliminate neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) features in a new video created by production company ITN.

The video, introduced by newsreader Natasha Kaplinsky, explores the impact of tropical diseases on global health, and looks at how raising awareness, collaborative working and new medical developments can help to combat the diseases around the world.

The five-minute Sightsavers report focuses on the organisation’s work to tackle schistosomiasis in Guinea-Bissau, which is funded by GiveWell. It features Sightsavers’ Nigeria country director Sunday Isiyaku, who explains how Sightsavers aims to raise awareness by educating people about NTDs, as well as training local volunteers to distribute medication.

The film is one of ten short films created in partnership with ITN Productions and the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene (RSTMH). It is part of RSTMH’s new ‘Access to Health: Global Challenges’ campaign, which was launched at the European Congress on Tropical Medicine and International Health on 16 September 2019.
