Free Will Services: How to Make Your Will for Free

Sightsavers has partnered with two will-writing services to enable you to make a will: here’s how.

A professionally written will can give you peace of mind, and is the only way to ensure your family is provided for in the way you wish when you’re gone.

After you’ve provided for your loved ones, your will also gives you the opportunity to leave a gift to charities or other causes you are passionate about.

The cost of making a will varies, but you can use our partner services to enable you to make a will for free, or in exchange for a voluntary donation.

Make your will with Will Aid

Will Aid is a cost-effective way to get professional help writing your will in exchange for a voluntary donation. Each November in the UK, Will Aid works with a network of participating solicitors across the country who offer their services without charge, to write your will for free.

First, sign up for an appointment through Will Aid with a participating solicitor near you. Rather than paying your solicitor their usual fee, you will be encouraged to give a donation to Will Aid instead.
These donations support nine charities including Sightsavers, meaning your kindness can help us continue our life-changing work to protect sight.
The donation is voluntary, and the suggested gift is £100 for a basic will or £180 for a pair of basic mirror wills.

Your generosity can change lives – a donation of £180 could pay for two sight-restoring operations for children with cataracts.

Appointments for Will Aid 2023 are now open for booking. To find participating solicitors near you, visit the Will Aid website and enter your postcode: you can then make an appointment with your preferred firm. Note that appointments can get booked up quickly, so don’t leave it too late.

Make a free will with Farewill

We’ve also teamed up with Farewill to give our supporters a free will, usually valued at £100, using the voucher code SIGHTSAVERS.

To create your will for free, just answer a simple questionnaire that takes about 15 minutes to complete, and wait for a legal expert to check it.
Once your will is ready, you’ll need to print and sign it in the presence of two witnesses, who also need to sign your will.

When submitting your will, you can opt into Farewill’s ‘unlimited changes’ service. This offers one year of unlimited changes and support free of charge, and incurs an annual cost of £10 thereafter. You can opt out of this service through Farewill before being charged.
