Sightsavers pays tribute to Queen Elizabeth II

September 2022
The Queen smiles as she greets staff.

I would like to join our patron, a Uachtarán na hÉireann Michael D Higgins, in expressing our profound sadness on the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth was the patron of our sister organisation in the UK and her steadfast support for Sightsavers gave tremendous validity to our cause.

As the President said: “Her personal commitment to her role and extraordinary sense of duty were the hallmarks of her period as Queen.”

We have lost a true global champion of issues related to eye health and disability inclusion.

We offer our condolences to the royal family, the people of the UK and especially our Sightsavers colleagues.

Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam dílis.

CEO, Sightsavers Ireland
